How do I fix my record player's volume?
Hi!
I have a general electric stereo, phonograph, 8 track system. Now, the volume works, but it doesn't work correctly.
When I pop the on and off knob out, which is also the volume knob, I receive a lot of static and "pop" from the speaker. Only one speaker seems to be having any sound. Sometimes when I use the stereo both speakers work. This tells me both speakers work. But when I use the phonograhp or record player, it mutes the left side speaker.
This system is about 37 years old. It's clean inside and out, the record player works fine. The only problem is the volume.
That's as much information as I can provide.

Go to RadioShack and ask for a spray can of "tuner cleaner". Unplug the stereo. Pull the volume knob off. Carefully use the straw that came with the spray to spray the cleaner down the control shaft, while turning the volume control all the way up and down several times. Replace the volume knob. Plug the unit back in. Try now

How To Upgrade Your Existing Car Stereo
Upgradation is one of the important elements of the modifications that occur with time in all technological changes. Similar to the endless programmes that control a computer, numerous programmes are there that work inside the car stereo system.
An upgraded car stereo lets the user experience high quality sounds. This is why it is generally felt that an existing car stereo should be upgraded to the latest technology. In this case, the transducer plays a key role. Sometimes not all the components of an existing car stereo are needed to be changed for good as even minor modifications can produce the expected results.
Before one goes for upgrading the existing car stereo system, a few basic points should be kept in mind. One of them is the resource. It is important to fix the budget, that is, the amount of money one is willing to spend. Next according to the budget, one should research to find out which brands suit the pocket.
Doing one's own research is important instead of depending on the views of friends and sales persons. In both the chances are there that, they will press on their own brands and preference without exactly knowing your requirements.
One common mistake that everyone makes during upgradation is that they hanker for speakers that produce louder sound. It is always better to choose the kind of speakers which gives complete satisfaction while listening to music. To accomplish this, one must listen to various speakers and only then make the choice.
While upgrading the head units of an existing car stereo, 'motorized faced' heads may give the owner some headache. They look fantastic but are quite problematic compared to the standard head units. In fact, there are certain head units that boast of producing more than 40 watts or channel but in reality they only manage to produce not more than 20 watts. Therefore, upgrading only based on watts or channel would be quite unwise.
One of the simplest ways to upgrade the existing car stereo is to get a good quality remote. This will save the car stereo from wear and tear of the head unit; maintenance will be easy and it will look smart and trendy.
The transducer converts the electrical energy into another form of energy. During this process of transformation, magnets are required. The bottom line is that, the stronger the magnet of car transducer, the more powerful the speakers will be. With strong magnets, each electrical signal could be picked up easily so that it could be converted into better audible sound. Therefore, when a car owner upgrades his existing car stereo he is better off going for a superior set of transducer.
During the upgradation of the speakers, the owner must keep in mind that the speakers must be paired with the receiver or an amplifier. After the upgradation of the receiver and amplifier, the owner must make sure that the new speakers correctly match with the upgraded receiver or amplifier.
