How can you get dust out of a horses' coat.?
I have been grooming this horse for ages and she looks really nice and shiny, but I stroked her hair backwards slightly when I was moving my brush and all this dust flew up and she looks really dirty again. How can I get rid of all this dust without giving her a full bath. - I do not own her and work at a riding stables.
If the weather won't allow you to wash all you need is a rubber curry and a medium / brush. Rub gentle circles on the coat to 'work up' the dirt. This will go against the hair and so it will let more of the dirt escape. It is important to do this gently as if you are rough you can cause discomfort to your horse. Next use the brush to 'flick' the dirt off of the horse. Soft / finishing brushes usually just rub the dirt back in but a medium has enough strength to allow you to flick the dirt off.
I also like taking a wet rag and rubbing / wiping. You get off a fair amount this way.
If you can bathe your horse - I like what Johnsons and Johnsons does for mane and tail - though if its really greasy / dirt i've seen people strip it down with dish washing detergent. Just remember to rinse well so you don't cause an allergic reaction.

Nowadays boutique styled and specialty shaped dust brushes have become rather common on grocery store shelves. They are mass-produced commodities designed to be used and thrown out without any mention of quality or performance. We here at Fuller Brush have been creating products that give consumers the best way to dust for nearly a century.
