Drive Stereo Turntable Getting my first turntable....?
Hey, I'm getting my first turntable set up and I have a few questions. The first of which is, shockingly, what model you would suggest. Here's what I'd like:
- Between 400-500 dollars
- Direct drive or belt driven, doesn't matter
- Three speed
- Has the ability to rip EPs/LPs to a computer
Alongside that, just general good quality and reputability.
Also, I'm wondering if I need any peripheral software to rip vinyl to a computer, and if so, how much that will cost.
Finally, for hooking up the turntable to a speaker system, stereo, etc, what kind of adapter cable or other cables should I get if the system does or does not have a phono input.
I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm new to this postvinyl scene. Thank you in advance for your patience and help.
Since you are using it for recording & not DJing, all you need is a Stanton T.80 it's S/PDIF digital output allows you to archive vinyl on your computer. $250 new, you can probably find a used one on eBay, since most beginner DJs upgrade from that to something like a a Stanton STR8-150, or Technics 1200 series when they can afford it.
You won't ever need to upgrade it, if you aren't going to DJ with it, it's a good turntable for recording.

Receiver or Amplifier for Technics Turntable?
I have a Technics SL-D303 fully automatic direct drive turntable. I am without a stereo and want to save money and buy something used but decent. I'm looking to spend up to $150. I have no other interest than playing LP's with this stereo. Do I need to buy an actual receiver, or can I just buy an amplifier instead? I've always used old, beat-up receivers (Sony, Marantz, Onkyo) in the past, so I'm not too familiar with alternative hook-ups. I also know zilch about preamps. Help, please.
There are amps out there but they are harder to find these days. A receiver will work just as well and will be within your budget. Just make sure it has a "phono" input.
