Drive Manual Turntables How do you fix a JVC L-L1 turntable?
I have a JVC L-L1 turntable. Everything works fine except for the drive system that actually makes the record spin. When spun by hand, it broadcasts just fine. Does anybody know where I can find (preferably online) a manual or some such that can help me get this thing fixed?
That's a belt-drive table. So, it's likely the drive belt has broken or is missing. You should be able to remove the turntable mat and see if the belt is around the pulley under the platter and the motor pulley through some openings in the platter. If the belt is missing, you should be able to see or feel if the motor pulley spins when it should or not. If it's the belt, you should be able to easily Google for a replacement. Lift the platter, put the belt around the pulley underneath. replace the platter and stretch the belt around the motor pulley through one of the openings in the platter.
If it's not the belt, it's either the motor or a bad component (capacitors are the usual suspect) in the speed control system. The service manual probably wouldn't tell you much more than that. It might point out which parts control the motor, but that would be pretty self-evident to anyone who could really do this job.
