What should a beginner DJ get????

I'm 13 years old, and I want to become a DJ. I don't want to scratch much, only make mixes of songs with some rap parts or effects in it. I was thinking about an i-pod mixer also, what's your take on that? I heard vinyl turntables are outdated now, and that CDJ's are in. I want to know each piece of equipment that I should get, that's not too expensive, but good for a beginner.

You heard wrong about vinyl turntables being outdated. Most computer laptop DJs use vinyl turntables. If you like scratching, vinyl turntables are definitely the way to go. Go to YouTube & type in "turntablism".

But since you're not interested in scratching, CDJs are probably a better choice.

Normally I would recommend against an iPod mixer, but since you're only 13 you'd probably have a hard time convincing your parents to buy you good DJ equipment.

I strongly recommend if you do get an iPod mixer that you get the Numark iDJ² iPod mixing console. I realize it's probably going to be pretty hard to convince your parents to spend $600, but that's the only decent iPod mixer on the market. (DJing is an expensive hobby.)
