How do I find out if a particular design already has a copyright?
I know that you can search the records on the government's website, but they only include records as far back as 1978, and I think this particular design may be older than that. Also, I tried doing a search anyway and it came up with thousands of results, none of which actually had accompanying pictures. Is is possible to pay someone else to do this? How much would it cost?
To be safe I know of only one way - Hire a Copyright Lawyer who specializes in that area. As for the cost I have no idea but using an image that is copyrighted or trademarked is probably much more expensive. Copyrighted images are protected for 100 years automatically and sometimes people get extensions as well.
