What sound recording solution do you recommend?
My church has a PA system, and every Sunday we record the sermon and worship on two audio tapes, which we then copy and sell to whoever wants them after the service (at barely the tape cost, of course). Hardware involved: a tape deck and a tape duplicator.
Now we want to switch to digital recording. The idea is to burn audio CDs (quick duplication is a plus) and post mp3 files on the web site, but mp3 CDs and audio tapes are also desired. There is no internet connection in the church hall.
I imagine several solutions, involving one or more of these items:
- a computer with a good sound card and one or more cd writers
- a hardware CD recording device (perhaps with tape too)
- a hardware CD duplicator
- a portable mp3 player/recorder
What solution would you recommend, that:
- doesn't cost a lot
- doesn't require more than basic technical skills
- can produce audio CDs quickly
- preferably, can produce mp3 CDs
- makes it easy to split the worship and sermon parts
There are many packages that make computer recording easy. The most basic is Garageband on any mac. Garageband comes free on every mac. Then you want an interface to plug your line feeds into the computer. You might also invest in a program called Sound Soap which will pick up and remove any constant backround noise.
On a pc there are also several easy packages to record with. One that I have tried is called N-track.
Converting to mp3's is simple once you have the original material in aiff or wav format.
Download some demo's of the software and test them out. I would bet that someone in your church uses a mac as well. have them bring it in and check it out.

Jet Washing Patios and Decks
A well maintained patio and deck are among the main attractions in a garden. With regular use as time goes by, patio and deck often get dirty and full of different particles and residues like dirt, algae, mildew and grime. But you can clean all these things off and make the deck look like new again. Jet washer or pressure washer can help you to achieve the best results while cleaning patio or deck.
Before you start using pressure cleaners, you must remember that safety is of great importance. These jet washers are powerful devices which can shoot water at a speed of 300 mph. Use safety goggles, gloves, waterproof clothes would also be very useful, and before powering up ensure that all connections are tight. Do not point them at people or animals as it can be injurious. Also make sure that extension cables are not in the path of water and they should be lifted high in the air.
Before cleaning, preparations are the most important part of the patio and deck cleaning process. Pressure washer is very powerful and can break frail things like old table or other delicate items, hence remove all the furniture from the patio. And also, it is the right time to clean your dirty furniture.
Pull out all the weeds from the patio. Also remove all the small and larger stones from the patio as a high-speed water jet can make them fly with high speed which can hurt people around or break a windowpane. And you do not want any damage for sure.
Pressure washers are available in various sizes and shapes. For household use, you can have an inexpensive model. A combination of pressure and water delivery rates, determine the power of the pressure washer. To wash a patio, you need a medium weight pressure washing. You need a pressure washer with 110 - 114 bars and 310 ltr/hr. You should find these data in technical specification of device.
Pressure cleaners come with various attachments for doing different types of cleaning jobs. Rotary jet lance attachment is effective for patio cleaning. Otherwise, you can go for Patio cleaner which causes water jets to rotate at high speed.
Now you can start the patio cleaning using pressure cleaners. Start the pressure cleaner and let it run for a few seconds to ensure its full power. Hold the cleaner a few feet away from the area you want to clean. If it is clean that means the distance is perfect otherwise you need to experiment with different distances. If water built up becomes extreme, then stop it regularly.
After you have done, let the patio dry and clean the left over dirt.
There are a few important tips in this regard. Plan a starting and finishing point for cleaning patio so that you do not spread the filth. As this is a wet and messy job, it’s advisable to do it on a hot day. To avoid dealing with filthy water, make sure the proper drainage of the cleaned area.
