What is the difference between DJ Turntable and DJ Console?
I was planning to buy a new turntable. But while i was searching for the turntable, i came across this new DJ Consoles. And i cannot find what are the difference between them. And i dunno much about any DJ Hardware. But willing to know as much as possible. So, i think you got ma problem. help me out.
I would recommend Technics 1200 turntables. They just feel richer and warmer than their digital counterparts. They're the industry standard because of their excellent sound quality and bullet proof build. You can spin records, mix, scratch and just listen to vinyl on them. You'll need a mixer to plug the turntables into. The mixer controls the levels of the turntables, through gain, volume, and eq (equalizer: high/mids/lows), as well as the fader which selects between the two turntables. the main fader is usually horizontal. If its in the middle you'll hear both turntables equally and as you slide it towards the left you'll hear the left table more and as you slide it to the right, the right side will sound more. This is used primarily for mixing and scratching. (you can also use the volume level fader, which are the vertical faders for this also)
There's a lot of flexibility with the old school decks, even if you want to go digital, through digitally encoded vinyl, like Rane's Serato and Stanton's Final Scratch, which allow you to plug in your laptop to your mixer and play and manipulate your mp3's just like vinyl. You can rewind, fast forward, stop, start, queue, and scratch the mp3 file. You control the sound file through the digitally encoded vinyl, and when you want to throw on a "real" vinyl record, just take off the digitally encoded record and swap it with your "real" vinyl record.
---(one of the benefits of this setup as it allows me to save on weight.... carrying a laptop vs. several crates of vinyl)
--as far as dj consoles go I don't have much experience with them but... many of them seem to be "beginner" all in one setups, with the mixer and usually CD player all in one convenient package, However there are some quite sophisticated and pricey setups as well. I have also seen them with IPOD controllers, built in CD players, as well as mp3 controllers that plug into your laptop. But the basic premise is that they're all in one. You really should play with them before you purchase them, and with all DJ gear, you really do get what you pay for, so if it seems too good to be true... it probably is. In general I would recommend being wary of consoles with too many features for too low a price and stick with well established quality audio manufacturers.
CD players are also an option, such as the pioneer cdj 1000, cdj800. I would recommend the CDJ1000 and CDJ800's from experience as far as CD players go, these would probably be considered the industry standard or Technics 1200's of CD players, as these are most likely the CD players that most clubs and venues will have set up.
The good thing now is that because of online auctions, you can find a used technic 1200's for the price of a new lower end deck. I've known people who were tempted with wanting to save $ and bought the cheaper deck, even a belt drive deck.... only to end up buying the 1200's anyway.
