Component Turntable

Do I need power conditioning or anything similar?
I have a separate power line for my music system coming to my home. Everything is connected directly to it. The system is overall very quiet. No hums or buzzes. Not even a ground loop at high levels! The power too is very clean with nothing else on the power line.
Whenever I switch off any component using switches that I have put with the plug points, I get a pop sound from the speakers at times. (Sounds similar to the kind that used to occur in old turntables). How do I get rid of this ?
I am scared of frying my speakers with the square wave generated from this.
I would avoid using switched outlets. That's like turning off components by unplugging them. If you are going to do this, switch off the amps first and when powering up, switch the amps on last. Also do this when using the components on power switches. If your components have 12 volt triggers, use those. With this you can just turn off your preamp/receiver and have the triggers turn off everything else.
As for power conditioning I never had any luck with it. In the past I had a couple systems with a slight hum so I tried some different line conditioners. Every one just made the hum worse. My current HT uses its own dedicated circuit like you and I have no problems. My processor turns on/off all the amps with the 12 volt trigger and I never get pops.

Stereo receiver compatibility with "phono" hook-up?
I have a tradtional stereo componet system comprised of receiver, cd, tape and PHONO. My existing malfunctioning receiver has a specific port and switch for Phono however other than the higher priced ones, the new receivers do not have the phono port and phono selector. I need a new receiver and was told that the cd and tape components can be used or connected interchangeably in the receiver ports/channels however there is something inherently different regarding the phono compatibility and hook-up. There for I cannot attach the phono leads to, say, the aux or dvd receiver port whereby the cd and tape would work. Is it true that I specifically need a PHONO port on the receiver, which is rare today, for the turntable to work? Or is it compatible with the existing hookup ports, ie dvd, aux? Does the turntable specifically need the "phono" switch and phono port or can I use the dvd, tv or aux? Thank you, heinz
no, your phonograph, or turntable, will work with any auxillery inputs.
