Button Knob Switch
What would you do with this if this happened to you? Could you fix it? Would you keep it?
I first released the handle by pulling down on the strap while tightening the fasteners. Next I pressed the button and removed the safety cap, while turning the knob to unleash the spring.. only then did I start winding the excess back onto the spool. I continued by loosening the screws on the top plate lid and was able to properly insert the tabs into the slots. I then rotated the control switch a quarter turn, before lowering both levers. Dropping the main crank into the neutral position, I was careful to not unscrew the main housing before engaging the clutch. I plugged in the starter and smoke filled the garage as the whole thing shuddered and finally stalled. I know it is a fire hazard but I want to fix it for pleasure use only...any help out there?
Did I mention the grinding noise it made before it completely stopped turning...also where might I get a good refurbished one? I need to save money for tools.
It's pretty obvious that you have at the very least damaged it, and it may need a rebuild. No matter what, the resale value is now in the toilet. I would buy a new one before I took a chance on yours. You probably won't be able to sell it for much, certainly not for nearly what you paid, and if you leased it, you may have to pay a lot in penalties to get rid of it. I would suggest donating it and taking a write-off, and getting a new one or a good used one. The new ones are much more durable, and the warranty is much better. In your case I would suggest an extended warranty, because it's clear that you are hard on equipment like this. You should be more careful with it. I take mine in to a factory-authorized service center every six months for maintenance, even thought the manual says every year. You can't be too careful. My dad's had his since 1968, and he has no trouble with it. He hardly uses it any more, because he lives in a condo and he travels a lot with my mother. He's thinking about buying a portable one, but they are expensive. Like anything, you pay a lot for convenience. If you are considering a used one, check on-line. Ebay has some good deals, so does the Recycler and Overstock.com. Shipping is costly, though. Shop around. Most people sell them at the end of the winter because they just don't want them taking up bedroom space.

Anigmo Dimmer and Dimmer Switch: Beauty and Function
In most homes, light switches are of the traditional type.
