What's the best turntable set for a beginner?
I've never spun vinyl in my life. I want to be a DJ. I'm looking at turntables, but am oh so confused, and need some advice.
something cheap. I am also a part time dj mixing for sweet 16s and such. i wanted to be a dj so bad that i tore the vinyl apart and broke the needles in a week. my advice is to check out ebay or something like it, buy a used one for cheap and practice. today, i use Numark. works wonders with all its special features. very expensive though. just get the hang out a cheap used turntable (double and fully functional) and when your ready, a brand new turntable of choice (ex. numark) will be a piece of cake to master. hope i helped and good luck

The Most Important Reminders To Being A DJ
If you cornered me against a brick wall and said, “Okay, what are the most important things about being a DJ?” I’d probably have to come up with the brief list that I am about to share with you in this article. Please keep in mind that this list is by no means all-encompassing. There are plenty more things you’ll need to learn. But these few things are at the priority of my list. Hope you find them useful.
Number one has got to be your equipment. I can’t stress its importance enough. It kills me to see new DJs buying cheap or used gear and expecting to get any kind of quality sound out of it, not to mention how often cheap and old stuff always breaks down. The last thing you want to have happen is to be out on a show and have everything die on you all at the same time. Trust me, it is NOT a good feeling. So please make sure you have the best equipment you can buy.
Number two has to be your track list. In most venues, you’re going to be playing to a mixed audience, so you have to make sure that you have a selection that will appeal to all tastes. Something you don’t want to do is come up with a list so syrupy that it chases away the metal crowd. You always have to keep them in mind when performing. Also, you want to make sure that you keep the females happy. Yes, they are your number one priority whether you know it or not.
Number three, and maybe this is the most vital, is that it’s not about YOU. It’s about the music. You are just the vehicle to get the music from your turntable to the ears of the crowd. Too many DJs get all transfixed in the “Hey look how cool I am!” persona and that’s just a disaster waiting to happen. Don’t get me wrong, you HAVE to be personable and likeable. That doesn’t mean that you make yourself the center of attention.
Great equipment, a good mix of music and the right attitude will get you far in this industry. Like I said, take this guidance for what it’s worth to you. Ultimately, it’s your gig and you have to do with it what you want.
