Is Open Secrets really all that un-biased?
I see a lot of conservatives linking to this website as "proof" that Democrats are all just as corrupt as Republicans... and that they control the media etc.
But I've done some research on my own and found some problems with this site.
One such example is that during the election, they showed a list of donations to Democrats from "Fannie Mae" and "Freddy Mac" which indicated a stronger connection between the two infamous lenders and the Dems.
But a further scratch of the surface revealed that those were just individual donations from lower-rung employees and the actual lobbying money from the top was far greater in favor of the Republicans.
Does anyone know if there's anybody else criticizing the accuracy of this website?
Yes it is. All data is on the site, it's not biased. It's true you can post a misleading link but only misleading to those who can't read on an adult level. Everyone else will immediately see what you are trying to do.
On the bigger issue Democrats take a lot of corporate money. Most industries simply pay both parties and get catered to regardless of who wins elections. In the 2008 election Democrats got a lot more corporate cash than Republicans. Not because all industries are pro Democrat but because dems were expected to win. Another strong sign corporate donors expect favors in return for their money.
Democrats have dirty hands. I can understand anyone who buys that the Democrats are protecting the little guy could be mislead by a selectively posted link from the great unbiased site opensecrets but that doesn't make that claim accurate.
The two leading Democrats on the Banking Committee, Chairman Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Charles Schumer of New York, are among the most favored recipients of campaign cash from big Wall Street interests.
Senator Schumer raised $12,928,000 in the 2003-2008 election cycle, according to the CPR. His top five industries for campaign cash were securities and investment, lawyers and law firms, real estate, miscellaneous finance and commercial banks, from which he netted a total of $3,937,000. His top five contributing firms were Citigroup, UBS, Paul Weiss et al, Kasowitz, Benson et al and Metlife, which funneled a total of $271,000 to his campaigns.
In the course of his political career, Senator Dodd has raised $43,344,000. In the 2003-2008 election cycle his top five industries for campaign funds were securities and investment ($4,268,000), lawyers and law firms, insurance, real estate and commercial banks, for a total of $9,826,000. His top five contributing firms were Citigroup, SAC Capital Partners, United Technologies, Royal Bank of Scotland and the insurance giant (taken over by the government earlier this month) American International Group. His total take from these firms was $1,315,000.

How do I safely clean a rifle barrel?
I have an airsoft gun that supposedly comes in it sstock form with a lot of grease that should be cleaned from the barrel and bucking. I'm not sure if the reviewer meant outside or inside, but it increases the accuracy of the gun a lot, so I want to be sure to clean the inside too.
I don't want to scratch the inside at all though, because that would DEFINITELY affect my gun's accuracy. is there any safe way to clean the barrel?
